Hey look guys, I made a meme. :U
I thought of doing this in the car when I was listening to A Perfect Circle's Thirteenth Step album (why do i always get ideas for art while driving), and then thought it'd make a good art meme.
The basic idea is to take an album or set of songs, and for each one, do a speedpainting of what the song looks like in your mind. Not really actual pictures, but more like colors and lines and shapes and scenes and feelings. You just listen to the song and try to paint everything that comes to mind when you hear it. This album has always put distinct images in my mind when listening to them, so I thought I'd try to paint them.
Detailed Analysis- Here you can see what I did so you can get an idea of what to do yourself.
The Package- This song to me sounds empty with sharp, thin interruptions throughout it. The guitar and the singing almost seem to pierce through the piece.
Weak and Powerless- Not entirely sure what's going on here, but the chorus makes me think of looking up into a light. The song also sounds kind of earthy to me for some reason. The sparkly dot things are from the bright sounding guitar in the chorus, too.
The Noose- This song sounds like shades of greyish purples for some reason. Another thin sounding song, so I tried to make it look delicate. The black lines are from the static piano notes throughout the song.
Blue- Always makes me see a sterile white scene with delicate shades of blue. The guitar sounds like rippling water. The song also sounds both peaceful and frantic at the same time. Not sure if I got that through with the picture though.
Vanishing- Extremely delicate song, very much matching it's title. It sounds almost evanescent, like smoke tendrils rising and disappearing.
A Stranger- Always makes me see a clear, cool, quiet night scene with a full moon and stars everywhere. The guitar and piano sound like stars in the sky and moonlight glittering on water. The strings remind me of the moon and trees and wind. Also I swear I hear crickets in the background. o.o
The Outsider- I chose murky greens and purples because the song sounds kind of poisonous to me. Not really sure where the white thing came from. Maybe the lyrics.
Crimes- Sounds kind of thin and bloody to me, like a psychopath counting off murders while normal life goes on outside. The sharp gray lines are from the piercing guitar and the voices in the background.
The Nurse Who Loved Me- This song sounds like apparent innocence and beauty with decay underneath it, like most relationships and marriages today. Soft yellows and whites for the flowing strings, and a sharp spot of black and red to represent the hint of something more sinister.
Pet- Always put the picture of a black or dark scene with a red-orange circular... something. Not sure why. I guess the song just sounds sinister, and those colors portray that for me. The circle is from the lyrics about protecting something, but it looks sharp and painful because of the dangerous and evil nature of the song.
Lulluby- Empty and creepy. Reminds me of like. A two year old girl who just killed someone. If you think I'm crazy just listen to it, you'll understand. So red bloody goodness here against an empty white background. The black lines are from the drum beats.
Gravity- Sounds like looking up or rising up out of a deep hole into the light of day. Earthy browns for dirt and decay, white light for recovery and safety. The white spots are supposed to look like dust or dirt in sunlight.
Imma put blanks up in a minute so you guys should do this too if you wanna.
